11 Nov AJF22 – Pasquale Grasso Quartet
Italian musician living now in New York Pasquale Grasso is an authentic guitar virtuoso who has developed an spectacular and original technique inspired not only but the greatest jazz guitarists but also by bebop pioneers like Powell, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. When legendary musician Pat Metheny was asked in an interview about other musicians he had been impressed by, he said: “The best guitarist I’ve ever heard, possibly in my whole life, is Pasquale Grasso. What he does is incredibly hard and extraordinary. He has captured the language of piano and somehow managed to translate it to the guitar.”
The series of recordings Grasso did for Sony Masterworks stand out in his discography, in them he explores standards, ballads and the repertoire of Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell and Charlie Parker, showing off his incredible skill playing guitar.
At Alternatilla Jazz Pasquale Grasso will perform as a Quartet joined by his brother Luigi Grasso playing sax, Marko Lohikari on bass and Joan Terol on drums.
