At Alternatilla Jazz, we aim to promote bridges of artistic and creative collaboration between our local musicians and the bands and guest performers from other countries. With the concerts ménagerie à jazz, a hallmark of our festival, we achieve one of the main objectives: to take advantage of the exchange and cultural diversity that enables the connection of musicians from different cultures. With these unique live performances, the goal is to bring together different ways of understanding jazz while prioritising cultural fusion, hybridisation of styles, instrumental dialogue, and the surprise of improvisation.
The first of this year's 'ménage à jazz' events features an interesting, unpublished, multinational quartet. Singer Tutu Puoane grew up in South Africa and studied jazz at the University of Cape Town. Throughout her career, she has received countless accolades and has released several albums with her band. She is currently the solo vocalist for the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Alongside Puoane, who, despite her South African roots, represents Belgian jazz as it is there that she has developed her career, the lineup includes the Mallorcan musicians Pere Bujosa and Diego Hervalejo, along with the Ibizan Joan Carles Marí, who are three excellent representatives of the new generation of musicians from the islands.
