Alternatilla Jazz Festival
What is the Alternatilla Jazz Festival?
In each edition, we focus on a guest country and, this year, we delve into the attractive world of Danish jazz. Denmark, with a deeply creative and constantly evolving jazz tradition, has established itself as a global reference. Its jazz is characterised by elegance, innovation, and a melodic approach that combines the best of tradition with an avant-garde drive. From its great historical figures to the young talents, Danish jazz continues to be a beacon of inspiration.
However, Alternatilla Jazz not only invites you to discover Danish talents, but also gives a voice to local and national musicians, promoting cultural connection between artists from different territories. A distinctive feature of our festival is the Ménage à Jazz concerts, where international musicians, especially from the guest country, join local artists on stage. These encounters are based on improvisation and joint creation, generating moments of great intensity and originality that can only arise from the dialogue between styles and cultures.
In addition to the concerts, Alternatilla Jazz includes an educational and outreach programme that encompasses everything from masterclasses and educational concerts to professional days, where experts and music professionals discuss the challenges and opportunities in the current cultural landscape. These activities aim to promote learning and reflection, connecting musicians and audiences in a close and educational manner.
Another aspect we want to highlight in this edition is the leading role of women jazz musicians. Although jazz has historically been a male-dominated genre, we have found an extraordinary female representation in this year's lineup. This selection not only reflects the talent and diversity of contemporary jazz but also underscores our commitment to making visible the women who are redefining and enriching the jazz scene.
Finally, at Alternatilla Jazz we are also aware of the importance of organising a festival in line with the times. Therefore, we are committed to a sustainable work ethic, adopting respectful practices in all phases of production and organisation. We firmly believe that culture should be a tool for sustainable development.
