Music comforts us in a time when the world is aflame. “We Have a Dream” (a title taken from Martin Luther King’s famous speech) is a musical project dedicated to human rights. Performed in a “big band” format with 18 musicians, the concert features new and original arrangements of great songs from pop, rock, soul, and jazz, selected from the rich catalogue of protest songs. From Stevie Wonder to Marvin Gaye, from Nina Simone to Sting, from Rod Stewart to Donny Hathaway, all are songs with a powerful message about injustices, oppression, or inequalities. And the universal message of hope remains relevant today, more than ever.

The singer Tutu Puoane, residing in Belgium but with South African roots, sings with her fist raised, as a sign of protest, a call for justice. The concert is a tribute to human rights and their defenders.

Arrangements for a jazz orchestra have been incorporated into the song repertoire, and the result is an exciting and universally accessible blend of styles and sounds, in which Tutu's great voice is surrounded by the unparalleled sound of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
