The Teis Semey Quintet is not just Danish guitarist Teis Semey. In fact, all five musicians in the quintet lead their own groups and are not only skilled musicians, but also impressive composers. There is a strong personality behind each instrument, and this is what makes the band an impressive experience to experience.

The band was formed in 2017 in Amsterdam, and has performed regularly across Europe. The initial vision was a gut-wrenching, DIY attitude towards music-making, and this vision is carried through in their most recent work. </p >

The explosive, radically lyrical music that the quintet embodies is thus a product of that mindset. While all the music is written by Semey, the band takes the music into their own hands, and there is never any guarantee of where it will lead. It will just be magic.

Mean Mean Machine’ is his third album in just three years. Praised and awarded for its experimental approach, the album is an attempt to fuse the punk and free jazz he buried himself in during lockdown, with the Scandinavian songs of his childhood, found in a book his grandmother left him when she died.

Guitar-fueled jazz, almost danceable with a finger on the pulse and a fist in the air. A lightning-fast response to the critical state of the world and a tribute to the extreme beauty that still exists.
