Didàctics “Femme Jazz”
Irene Reig, sax, piano and voice.
Pere Bujosa, double bass.
Joan Terol Amigó, drums.
Despite their presence and importance in the history of jazz, women have not always received the recognition they deserve. The chronicles of jazz have almost always had an indisputably male bias, but the story of the history of this genre cannot be understood without the figure of women who, despite almost always having to go against the grain in the practice of jazz, have shown perseverance decade after decade, until today, when the secular trend of sexist discrimination is beginning to be resolved. The visibility of women has improved significantly, after a slow but progressive overcoming of gender prejudices, both among jazz fans and among musicians and critics themselves.
There are many women who have become protagonists and inescapable references of the first order in the jazz elite. The presence of women on a stage where jazz is performed, playing any instrument, is not a singular or atypical event. They do not give up.
In this educational concert, for audiences of all ages, some of the women who have excelled in this musical genre will be introduced and arrangements of compositions written or popularized by them will be performed.
