At Alternatilla Jazz Festival we’ve long been joyful “musical matchmakers”, bringing together artists who have never played side by side to see what happens when their worlds collide. We call it i>ménage à jazz: a blind date where improvisation is the language, courage the rule, and fusion, inevitable.

To launch our ninth edition —dedicated to the vibrant spirit of French jazz— we present a one-off Alternatilla Jazz Band: the elegant double bass of Joachim Govin (France), the imaginative piano of Aga Derlak (Poland), the fresh, luminous voice of Blanca Funes (Catalonia, one of the standouts of the 2025 Talent Jazz festival by Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera, with whom we’re partnering for this concert), the unmistakable groove of drummer Joan Moll Moncada (Menorca)… and Ariel Brínguez, a landmark saxophonist, Grammy-recognised, with collaborations spanning Chucho Valdés, Alejandro Sanz and Iván “Melón” Lewis.

Brínguez has forged a singular sound that has refreshed contemporary Cuban saxophone: immersive phrasing and a sophisticated compositional universe. On stage he connects deeply and directly, with an energy rooted in tradition and free of prejudice. His hallmark: healing music that holds you, that transforms you.

The date is at Teatre des Born in Ciutadella, an architectural and historical jewel of Menorca, whose precise acoustics turn every whisper and vibration into pure emotion. A stage that doesn’t just host, but amplifies and transforms every note.

This ménage à jazz is a celebration of talents meeting to create something greater than the sum of its parts. It is the beginning of a journey that—like the finest jazz—is written as it is played.
