Alternatilla Jazz Band 26-v3

This is what we call a ménage à jazz: imagining connections, bringing distinctive voices together and deliberately leaving part of the story unwritten.

For the third Alternatilla Jazz Band of AJF #10, we bring together Italian guitarist Leonardo Mezzini, Portuguese singer Marta Garrett, Mallorcan double bassist Pere Bujosa and Menorcan drummer Joan Moll.

Leonardo Mezzini is an Italian guitarist based in Barcelona, whose work moves through jazz and projects where improvisation, song and music from different traditions naturally coexist. In 2026 he released Assanhado with Marta Garrett, a project travelling between Brazil, Portugal, Catalonia and Italy, driven above all by instinct and musical freedom.

Marta Garrett’s voice carries many places within it. Born in Lisbon, she grew up musically around the historic Hot Clube de Portugal before moving through the scenes of Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen and Barcelona. Her approach to singing treats the voice not simply as melody, but also as rhythm, texture and a space for dialogue.

From Mallorca comes Pere Bujosa,, a double bassist from a generation for whom making music on an island has never meant thinking small. Contemporary jazz, polyrhythm, electronics and improvisation all form part of a musical language that remains open and constantly in motion.

And from Menorca comes b>Joan Moll,, drummer and a familiar face from Alternatilla’s ménage à jazz projects — a musician for whom listening, reacting and making decisions in real time are at the very heart of the music.

Some connections between them already exist. What does not exist yet is this band. And that is where the game begins.

Voice, guitar, double bass and drums. A line-up with plenty of air, room for song and enough freedom for any idea to change direction at any moment.

Hi ha fils que ja existeixen. El que encara no existeix és el teixit.

On 6 December, in Llucmajor, Italy, Portugal, Mallorca and Menorca will stop being places on a map for a while and become four voices in the same conversation.

Four musicians. A one-off line-up. And music that will have to invent itself as we listen.
