WORKSHOP: “EAR TRAINING”

In this workshop, we will focus on training the ear through melody. Melody is one of the most important elements found in any form of music—from songs to symphonic works. It is the gene of the musical piece and the most decisive factor when it comes to recognizing and distinguishing one work from another.

Scales, intervals, and arpeggios are key concepts when it comes to analyzing or creating a melody, and we will work on them through various activities and examples. We will focus on creativity in both interpretation and composition, as well as on transcribing audio examples.

Workshop led by Irene Reig, an initiative made possible thanks to the collaboration of our members and the team behind AEDEM (Alternatilla School of Musical Experimentation).

Irene Reig (Barcelona, 1993) resideix a Amsterdam on desenvolupa la seva trajectòria musical com a intèrpret i compositora. S’interessa per la música des de ben petita i comença a rebre classes de piano clàssic passant per escoles com Oriol Martorell o el Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, i paral·lelament s’endinsa en el món del jazz amb el saxòfon baix el braç. Ha passat per orquestres com la de Santo Andreu Jazz Band o la Star Wood Band i ha participat en diversos projectes musicals com The Bop Collective, Smack Big Dab, o el quintet que presentar al Alternatilla Jazz In Mallorca 2018. Combina la seva carrera musical amb els estudis superiors i de màster a l’Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, el Conservatori d’Amsterdam i la Templo University de Filadèlfia.
