Irene Reig (Barcelona, 1993) lives in Amsterdam where she develops her musical career as a performer and composer.
She was interested in music from a very young age and began taking classical piano lessons at schools such as Oriol Martorell or the Barcelona Municipal Music Conservatory, and at the same time she entered the world of jazz with the saxophone under her arm. She has played in orchestras such as the Santo Andreu Jazz Band or the Star Wood Band and has participated in various musical projects such as The Bop Collective, Smack Big Dab, or the quintet she is presenting at the festival. She combines her musical career with higher and master's studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, the Conservatory of Amsterdam and Templo University in Philadelphia. It was during her stay in the United States that she studied with saxophonist Dick Oatts and recorded her first album as a frontman (“Views”), which features the renowned trumpeter John Swana.
Reig explains that “Views” is an album full of spontaneity that came about as a crazy idea one morning after waking up, and three months later she was recording it in Philadelphia. Each song reflects a specific and special moment in Irene's life, memories and experiences of Barcelona, Amsterdam and Philadelphia, the cities where she has lived and where she has met the people who have had an impact on her life.
