45 years of well-made swing.
Founded in Barcelona in 1980, La Vella Dixieland marks 45 years as one of Spain’s leading traditional jazz outfits: from New Orleans roots to swing, with blues and gospel in the mix, carried by bespoke arrangements and irresistible drive. This year brings tributes at major festivals and a fitting anniversary season.
For this Inca celebration, the band fields a Catalan all-star and rolls out its signature take on traditional jazz: horns up front, a walking rhythm section and that irresistible call & response that lights up the room. From joyous New Orleans roots to classic swing —with flashes of blues and gospel— their home-grown arrangements turn each tune into a shared story. A ten-piece built to make standards and classics swing with craft, humour and stomp.
The Teatre Principal d’Inca —an icon since 1914, now thoroughly revitalised— provides the perfect frame for a tour through jazz’s living memory: brass in conversation, characterful solos and that easy-walking beat that turns the room into one big listening floor.
